MakeMyTrip Acquires Majority Stake in Quick Ride to Enter Ride Pooling

MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based carpooling platform Quick Ride, entering ride pooling for daily urban commutes.

MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based Quick Ride, a car and bike pooling platform, in a deal announced on 6 November 2026. The Nasdaq-listed travel company is entering the shared mobility segment with the purchase. The deal value and the exact size of the stake were not disclosed.

Quick Ride will sit inside MakeMyTrip’s ground transport business, alongside bus ticketing platform redBus and intercity car rental company Savaari. The move adds daily office commutes to a portfolio that has so far been built around intercity travel.

What the deal covers

MakeMyTrip is not buying the whole of the original Quick Ride company. The Quick Ride brand and its ride pooling business were moved into a new company, Co Ride Mobility Private Limited, through an internal restructuring. MakeMyTrip has taken a majority stake in that new company.

Quick Ride’s promoters will continue to lead the ride pooling business. Its electric vehicle taxi business is not part of the transaction and will stay with the earlier company, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited.

Why MakeMyTrip wants daily commutes

Ride pooling gives MakeMyTrip a presence in high-frequency daily travel inside cities, a habit its existing businesses do not cover. Flights, hotels and intercity buses are booked occasionally, while the office commute repeats every working day.

“Ride pooling gives us a presence in high-frequency daily commutes within cities, as well as intercity travel. Quick Ride will be housed under our ground transport business, and we will bring the learnings from building redBus, both in India and in overseas markets, to grow and scale the business.”

Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, MakeMyTrip

The ground transport business is already a meaningful part of MakeMyTrip. Its bus ticketing revenue rose 16.6% year on year to $39.1 million in the quarter ended 30 September 2026, while gross bookings grew 20% to $435.3 million.

Group revenue for the quarter was $235.2 million, up 2.5%, with a net profit of $1.8 million against a loss of $5.7 million a year earlier.

Quick Ride’s road so far

Quick Ride started in 2015, bootstrapped by founder KNM Rao. The idea came from the parking crunch at the offices where Rao and his colleagues worked, and the team set out to build a fully automated way for employees to carpool.

The company raised around $15.8 million in total from investors including Sequoia Capital India, Naspers and Venture Highway. Its Series B round in 2019 raised Rs 100.78 crore.

The user base grew from 50,000 in 2016 to nearly 35 lakh by 2020, when the platform was enabling about 17 lakh carpools a month.

Growth was sharp before the pandemic. In 2019 alone, Quick Ride users shared 27.5 million rides and prevented about 53,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The pandemic then cut commuting sharply, and the company added an electric taxi fleet in Bengaluru while its carpooling business worked its way back to breakeven in March 2023.

“We built Quick Ride to make it easier for people to connect and share their everyday journeys. Becoming part of the MakeMyTrip group is an important milestone for our team and for the community of users who have placed their trust in us.”

A return to carpooling for MakeMyTrip

This is not MakeMyTrip’s first attempt at carpooling. RedBus launched a carpooling service called rPool in June 2019 for working professionals in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune.

The group has since kept expanding its ground transport bench through acquisitions, adding Savaari in car rentals, Happay in corporate travel and Flamingo Transworld in group holidays, plus a minority investment in visa platform Atlys.

“Our acquisition of Quick Ride’s ride pooling business is a strategic fit, expanding our offering across a wider range of travel needs. We see an opportunity to jointly serve the same customer across more of their journeys, from the daily office commute to the weekend trip home.”

Prakash Sangam, Chief Executive Officer, redBus and Head of Ground Transport, MakeMyTrip

The test now is execution. Quick Ride brings a decade of carpooling experience and a corporate customer base, while MakeMyTrip brings distribution and the redBus playbook. If the combination works, the daily commute becomes the most frequent touchpoint MakeMyTrip has ever owned with its customers.
