GunjanApps Studios Shark Tank Pitch and Updates
The founder of GunjanApps Studios appeared on Shark Tank India Season 2 Episode 7 and demanded INR 2.5 crores for a 1% equity at a valuation of 250 crores.
After the initial pitch, the sharks were interested to learn how it all started. So Sourav went on to explain how their son learned the alphabet and numbers at just 1.5 years of age via Youtube videos. It was the reason why they started their own business.
After all, they felt that if their kid could do it without parental guidance, then any child could do that. So it was their story of how they launched their first app.
Sourav showed them the demo to give the sharks a clearer idea about their product. However, Vineeta was immediately against it since she felt that the apps were pretty addictive and won’t help reduce screen time.
Even though they tried to convince Vineeta, Anupam was the next shark who was not convinced about their product. For him, their apps were more or less a copy product from the premium ones, which they have made accessible free of cost.
Peyush next asked them about their revenue model and wanted to learn about the team behind the products. Sourav explained their three revenue-generating streams, after which he mentioned that they made INR 24 crores in the last Fiscal year and INR 8.5 crores in the last five months.
They also mentioned that they made INR 14.7 crores in FY 20-21. Next, Peysuh was interested in the profits. Souirave explained that they made 95% gross profit in the last year, out of which INR 21 crore was EBITDA.
Vineeta was the first one to give her decision for the deal. According to her belief, screen time will not decrease in any way and these apps also become addictive; hence she was out. The same was for Namita as well.
She did not believe in accepting the increased screen time of kids and hence was also unable to take the deal forward due to a conflict of interests.
Anupam was next to give his decision. He believed that they were not capable enough to compete with the already established giants and hence were out. Aman and Peyush were curious about what they had learned till now. But even after Sourav’s explanation, Peyush was not convinced and hence left the table.
Aman was the last one to give his decision. He felt that they were not really competitive and hence could not take the deal forward.
