Bhaskar’s Puranpoli Ghar Shark Tank Pitch and Updates
The founder of Bhaskar’s Puranpoli Ghar appeared on Shark Tank India Season 2 Episode 6 and demanded INR 75 lakhs for a 1% equity at a valuation of 75 crores.
After the initial pitch, Peyush was interested in learning when people typically have Puran Poli. Vittal explained that people love this as a dessert, but in some parts of India, people have this for breakfast. After the initial conversation, the sharks wanted to learn about Bhaskar’s journey.
He explained how he ventured into different businesses and struggled through life before starting this company. His experience touched the sharks, and Anupam asked more about the sales. According to Vittal, they started their first outlet in Thane in 2021, with four outlets in Maharashtra.
Anupam was more interested in the numbers, and Vittal explained that they made INR 1.6 crores in FY 21-22 from only the Thane outlet.
Calculating the total sales from all three franchises and one outlet, they made around INR 18.5 lakhs in the last month. Out of these sales, they make around 18-20% profits, which gives them INR 3.6 lakhs per month.
But after learning about the numbers, Peyush was confused why they were not opening their own outlet by giving out franchises. To this, Vittal explained that they are planning to do that only in the next year and wish to open three outlets.
However, Vineeta was not convinced, and according to her, the multiple businesses of the owners felt they didn’t really need investors since they could scale the business with their own capital itself. Hence she was out.
Followed by her, Peyush also said that he was not convinced why they are seeking INR 75 lakhs for 1% equity because, technically, he could be making three to four times more profit after getting two franchises at the same price.
Anupam was the second one to move out of the deal. Because according to him, Vittal and Sourabh were playing more of a marketing game, and there were multiple conflicts of interest. Also, he could not figure out the reason for their wanting the investment.
After Anupam Peysuh also gave his decision. He said that they at least need to give 15-20% equity for INR 75 lakhs else they won’t be able to get any deal. He further suggested they take a debt and open company outlets to further scale the business, but he was not convinced to take the deal forward.
The last shark left was Aman. But he felt that since the owners have so many businesses, they won’t be totally dedicated, and hence he was also unable to move forward with the deal.
