Meet Dawaa Dost, Helping To Serve The Basic Medical Needs Of The Average Indian Without Risking Debt

Every illness has a cure, and the treatment is usually in the form of medicine. Regular or prescribed drugs might quickly empty our bank accounts. Because they cannot afford it, a large proportion of the Indian population frequently abandons the idea of obtaining essential drugs.

Dawaa Dost comes to the rescue in situations like this. Dawaa Dost seeks to provide clients with high-quality, low-cost alternatives (in the form of branded generics), allowing them to save up to 80% on their prescriptions. They also have partnerships with big pharmaceutical companies.

How Did Dawaa Dost’s Idea Come Into Existence?

Dawaa Dost, which debuted in 2018, is a notable consumer healthcare platform in Bharat that aims to provide over 1 billion Indians with high-quality, low-cost pharmaceuticals in the form of branded generics. They enable Indians to save 50–80 percent on medical expenses by delivering high-quality medicines from the most reputable pharmaceutical companies.

As privatization has increased, proprietary medications have outperformed generics, resulting in increasing healthcare expenses.

Almost 90% of people do not take their medications on time, putting them at risk of deterioration or succumbing to one or more diseases.

Enter the Karma Dost App, which uses phone calls and reminders to improve medicine adherence among Indians. Since the launch of KarmaDost a year ago, they have boosted client adherence by more than 50%.

Karma Dost is an Indian service that aims to eliminate pharmaceutical nonadherence. It is addressing this problem by leveraging technology to develop highly effective techniques for promoting drug adherence. The platform has developed the practice of reminding users to take their meds on schedule.

Furthermore, with over 7 lakh videos in six Indian languages, its content platform, Medwiki, is the world’s largest healthcare content owner.

Even though the internet is swamped with health/medicine content, public awareness of medications and their components is at an all-time low, allowing plenty of room for disinformation. Medwiki is now used by about 15 million Indians.

Meet the Founders of Dawaa Dost

Now that we know what Dawaa Dost is all about, let’s get to know the founders behind this brilliant idea. Amit Choudhary, the CEO and one of the co-founders of Dawaa Dost, is a Chartered Accountant (CA) by education.

Before stepping onto the entrepreneurial ladder, Mr. Choudhary had a successful career in finance. He has worked with companies like P & G, JP Morgan, and Snapdeal before laying the foundation of Dawaa Dost with his team.

Yash Harlalka is the COO and one of the co-founders of Dawaa Dost. Project management expertise for on-the-ground execution is second nature to Yash because of his ten years of experience managing complex projects in India and bringing them into reality.

Last but not the least, Anirudh Batwara, the CTO and also one of the co-founders of Dawaa Dost, has been building, designing, and shaping products from the ground up as a tech architect and SaaS enthusiast for over a decade. He is a seasoned entrepreneur who has previously managed small and medium-sized teams.

Dawaa Dost’s founders came from a range of backgrounds, but what eventually brought them together was a shared desire to help ordinary Indians fulfill their basic medical needs without jeopardizing their financial security.

Medicines That Don’t Burn a Hole in Your Pockets

Costly medicines have long driven lower and middle-class Indians into debt. Dawaa Dost’s founding members have vast experience in working closely with several NGOs that have made major contributions to the country’s healthcare system.

While dealing with them, they concluded that more than one billion Indians confront numerous healthcare challenges. The more pressing issues are a lack of fairly priced and high-quality medical solutions and a lack of knowledge about the medications used in India.

Moreover, there are concerns surrounding not taking prescribed drugs because of higher medication prices.

Dawaa Dost’s mission is to improve the quality of the whole pharmaceutical customer experience in India, including adherence, availability, access, and affordability (of high-quality medications) (to help patients take medicines on time).

They are working to close the gap that currently exists in the consumer healthcare ecosystem and have the goal of finding answers to all of the problems that modern Indians face to improve and preserve their health.

Way Forward Towards Growth of Dawaa Dost

As of now, Dawaa Dost can be found in 66 different locations in the states of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, and Maharashtra.

Dawaa Dost is an omnichannel platform that provides services to more than 2 million clients via both online and offline business channels, boasting a client loyalty and retention rate of more than 45 percent.

Because of this, customers have been able to accumulate savings totaling over 203 million Indian rupees up to this point. They anticipate having more than 500 stores all over India within the next two years if all goes according to plan. Dawaa Dost has committed to achieving a reduction in annual spending on healthcare by one billion dollars by the year 2025.
